Jens Meinig takes over responsibility for route planning and competition design
fresh ideas – the same proven quality
The Eggentaler Herbst Classic stands for precision, passion, and driving culture amidst the breathtaking scenery of the Dolomites.
For the 21st edition, there is an exciting new development: Jens Meinig takes over responsibility for route planning and competition design.
Together with Klaus Pichler, organizer of the Eggentaler Herbst Classic, he talks about standards, route design, and the future development of the rally.
Mr. Meinig, what attracted you to the Eggentaler Herbst Classic?
Jens Meinig:
This event has a very unique character. It combines sporting ambition with extraordinary scenery and a highly personal approach to organization. That combination is what makes it so attractive to participants—and particularly exciting for me as Rally Director.
You come from a rallying background. What are your main priorities?
Jens Meinig:
My focus is on clearly structured procedures and precise tests. The challenges should be demanding, but always fair. At the same time, the enjoyment of driving must never be lost—that is essential for an event like the Eggentaler Herbst Classic.
Mr. Pichler, why Jens Meinig?
Klaus Pichler:
We wanted to further develop the event in a focused and sustainable way. Jens brings exactly the right combination of experience, professionalism, and understanding of classic car events. He knows what matters—both from a sporting and an organizational perspective.
The route is a key element of the event. What can participants expect in 2026?
Jens Meinig:
The route will once again be one of the highlights of the rally. We will travel through some of the most beautiful sections of the Dolomites and around the Eggental Valley.
Participants can look forward to:
- challenging mountain roads with varied and exciting corners
- breathtaking panoramic stages
- carefully positioned regularity and timing tests
The combination of enjoyable driving and sporting precision is what makes this event so special.
Are there any significant changes to the format?
Jens Meinig:
Yes, one important change concerns the starting order: The oldest vehicle will start first.
This places even greater emphasis on the historical character of the rally while creating a very harmonious field on the road. It also has a positive effect on the overall flow of the event.
Will the DNA of the event change?
Klaus Pichler:
No—quite the opposite. The Eggentaler Herbst Classic remains what it has always been: an elegant classic car rally with sporting ambition and a unique atmosphere. The new features are targeted improvements, such as the introduction of secret special tests, not fundamental changes.
What is your personal goal for the next edition?
Jens Meinig:
That participants will say: “Perfectly organized, fantastic to drive, and unforgettable.” If we achieve that, we will have done everything right.
